BGN 19: Foreword

Foreword

The need for an international barley genetics newsletter was discussed at the First International Barley Genetics Symposium in 1963 and a resolution establishing the BARLEY GENETICS NEWSLETTER was adopted by the Second International Barley Genetics Symposium in 1969 (the resolution is included in the FOREWORD of BGN 1).

T. Tsuchiya, T. E. Haus and R. T. Ramage were appointed editors and charged with the publication and distribution of a yearly newsletter beginning in 1970. Volume 1 was published in the spring of 1971. At the Fifth International Barley Genetics Symposium in 1986, the editors resigned but agreed to continue until replacements were found. With Volume 18, the services of the first Editorial Committee ended.

Volume 19 of the BARLEY GENETICS NEWSLETTER is to be edited by:

For Volume 20, correspondence concerning subscriptions and other business matters should be sent to the Managing Editor and manuscripts should be sent to one of the Technical Editors.

The current editors wish to thank T. Tsuchiya, T. E. Haus and R. T. Ramage who contributed so much to the success of the first 18 volumes of the BARLEY GENETICS NEWSLETTER. We also thank the many other researchers who have encouraged contribution of this newsletter and the financial support of the American Malting Barley Association, Inc. We appeal to the readers to make suggestions that can improve this tool for communication among barley workers of the world.
