BGN 2: Location of the lr gene on chromosome 2 BARLEY GENETICS NEWSLETTER, VOL. 2, IX. CORRECTIONS OF BARLYE GENETICS LITERATURE
Haus, p. 203.

XI.1. Location of the lr gene on chromosome 2.

In the "Summary of Linkage Studies in Barley: Supplement I" published in 1947, Robertson reports that the gene lr for reduced lateral spikelet appendage is linked with v with O.O percent recombination. He cites Leonard (1) as the authority for this linkage relationship. In reviewing Leonard's publication in the Journal of the American Society of Agronomy, there is no mention made of any v - lr association.

Glinyany (2) crossed the same awnless lateral stock used by Leonard and obtained fully awned 6-row plants in the F2 as evidenced by a photograph in his paper. If v and lr were completely linked he could not have recovered this type plant in the F2.

From linkage data obtained by Leonard (1) and others, lr should be moved toward the end of the long arm of chromosome 2 from v about 6 to 8 map units.
