Lekes, p. 5

I.9. Announcement of the International Symposium regarding the questions of yielding capacity and breeding of barley, which is being planned in Czechoslovakia in 1972.

On the occasion of the centenary anniversary of the systematic spring barley amelioration in the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic, the mentioned Symposium will be held on June 24th to June 30th in the Cereal Research Institute, Kromeriz, under participation of prominent experts from abroad and our country. The proceedings will be held in two sections.

1. Role, influence and further use of the Hanna barley varieties in genotype development of the malting barley in the world.

2. Breeding methods of intensive varieties for amelioration of yield components (yield structure), lodging resistance, malting and feeding characteristics and of complex resistance to diseases and pests.

The main topic of the second section will be the mechanism of the yielding capacity development, influence of external conditions on yield and complex agrotechnical management of the high yielding varieties.

Recently, very valuable results have been achieved in the field of breeding, agrotechnical management and nutrition, but in spite of these many problems are still to be solved in conditions of intensive agriculture and growing of malting and feeding barley.
