A detailed RFLP linkage map of barley has been demonskated in BGN 21 as the NABGMP mapping progress report, using 150 doubled haploid (DH) lines derived from a cross combination between Steptoe and Morex (Kleinhofs, 1992). In the map of chromosome 3, 13 cDNA and 9 genomic markers are located, together with one morphological marker mPub (pubescent leaf) and one isozyme marker iBgl (beta-galactosidase). Meanwhile, two kinds of linkage analyses for isozymes and visible markers on chromosome 3 have been reported in the same issue of BGN (Netsvetaev, 1992a, 1992b), and two new loci of Ble (blue endosperm) and Est11 (esterase 11) are located in the chromosome. Although the title of his report (Netsvetaev, 1992b,) on page 63 in BGN 21 was mistaken as chromosome 1, the chromosome should be corrected to chromosome 3.

Furthermore, several useful genes on chromosome 3 are reported, although their loci have not been localized yet. For isozymes, EstlO (Brown and Munday, 1982), Mdh2 (Powling et al., 1981), Tpil (Pietro and Hart, 1985), and MEP-1 (Guerin, et al., 1992) were detected in wheatbarley addition lines. The resistant genes to Barley Mild Mosaic Virus (ym4) in Germany (Kaiser and Friedt, 1992) and to the strain II of Barley Yellow Mosaic Virus in Japan (Iida and Konishi, in preparation) were located also in chromosome 3. Localization of these loci in chromosome 3 is requested in the near future.
