FOREWORD
After publication of two volumes, the editors are now becoming familiar with the nature of the Barley Genetics Newsletter; material to be included, general rules for contributing papers, and the format to follow in the preparation of manuscripts.

The size of the past two issues indicates the scope of the interest and activities of barley geneticists throughout the world. However, it is regretable to find a considerable number of errors and mistakes in the publication. Many of these are typographical errors for which the editors are responsible. Some others are, however, mistakes of the author(s). Most of these errors and mistakes, if not all, could have been avoided by more careful proofreading by the editors. We have made as many corrections as possible, and these errata have been published in this issue. The editors apologize to the authors for the errors and mistakes we have made. However, there may be some errors we have missed. We would appreciate your help in finding these and informing us so that they can be corrected in future issues.

Even though the Newsletter has taken shape, we know that there is still room for improvement in the future. We appreciate receiving your constructive comments and suggestions.

As we all notice from the past two issues, there are many problems to be solved in the area of barley genetics. Cooperative work is the only way to efficiently and effectively attack and solve these problems. We urge all barley geneticists to communicate these ideas and methods together with the results in our Barley Genetics Newsletter which is the common field of exchanging information.

We wish to thank all contributors who made it possible to publish the Barley Genetics Newsletter successfully. Also, we thank all the people who informed the editors of the errors and mistakes in the past issues. The list of literature on barley genetics published in 1970 and 1971 is included in this issue. There may be some papers which were inadvertently omitted in the list. These will be published in future issues as we find them or are informed about them by you, our colleagues.
