II.45 Telotrisomic analysis of a multiple genetic marker stock (g-Ms-h/g-ms-h) in chromosome 5.

T. Tsuchiya, Department of Agronomy, Colorado State University, Fort Collins, Colorado 80523, U.S.A.

A multiple genetic stock g-Ms-h/g-ms-h was established by R.F. Eslick of Montana State University (personal communication). All three marker genes are known to be located on chromosome 5 with the following characteristics:

g   Golden, g is a tentative symbol for the mutant which is similar to or. Plant color is light green or yellow throughout its growing period from seedling stage to near maturity. Expression of the yellow character is not very good at very early seedling stage, but becomes very clear at later stages of growth.

ms male sterility

h height gene, short plant height

The multipIe stock was crossed with Triplo 5L as female. An F2 population was studied with the results shown in Table 1. Chromosome number of individual plants in F2 population was counted.

Table 1. F2 data in the cross Triplo 5L x g-Ms-h/g-ms-h.

The results showed that (1) G g alleles were in the long arm of chromosome 5, (2) the parental trisomic F1 hybrid plant of this F2 population was not heterozygous for ms (msg 1), and (3) the gene h did not show any characteristic trait of short culm or dwarf plant compared to normal or H-plant.
