A Database for Triticeae and Avena
In the collection of barley genetic stocks in the World Barley Genetic Stock Center, Fort Collins, Colorado, many chlorophyll mutants showed similar characteristics. Reciprocal crosses were made between these similar mutant types. At the same time, several chlorina mutants were crossed with SEl6 with normal green seedling color to test their maternal nature of inheritance. The F1 results are listed in Tables 1 and 2.
The results in Table 1 suggested that all these three mutants tested are not maternally inherited. The results in Table 2 are summarized as follows:
Allelic groups:
B9-8 and B9-6
B11-2 and B11-7
B5-1 and B11-10
B15-7 and B3-2
Non-allelic groups:
B2-4 and B3-2
B13-2 and B14-6
Genetic Stocks B9-8, B11-2, B11-7, B11-10, and B2-4 have been reported that they were not maternally inherited (Hang and Tsuchiya, 1989; Tsuchiya et al., 1990). So the results in Table 2 suggested that B9-6, B5-1, and B3-2 could not be maternally inherited. The maternal nature of B15-7, B13-2, and B14-6 could not be concluded from this study. The allelic relation between B15-7 and B3-2 also needs further investigation.
